Adven Oy – Improving boiler efficiency with NIRAFON Acoustic Cleaning System

Adven Oy is a leading energy services provider specializing in the production of energy for industrial processes. At their facility in Lahti, Adven operates a hot water boiler fueled by barley husk to produce superheated water for industrial processes.

First Approach

Adven's boiler, commissioned in 2023, experienced significant challenges related to ash buildup. The boiler's convection section frequently clogged within days, especially during high-capacity operation. This led to elevated temperatures and reduced efficiency, requiring mechanical cleaning far more often than anticipated.

Initially, the maintenance plan anticipated mechanical cleaning every three months, but the actual need arose weekly. The frequent clogging not only increased downtime and operational costs but also forced Adven to temporarily switch to costlier natural gas for energy production. Furthermore, the inability to fully burn the barley husk on-site necessitated transporting the material off-site, further complicating operations.

Solution: NIRAFON Acoustic Cleaning System

To address these issues,  Adven implemented NIRAFON’s acoustic cleaning technology. Two systems were installed: one NCSD unit at the convection section's front and one NI250 unit in the multicyclone section.

The NIRAFON system was implemented efficiently, with a site inspection within days and the system operational in under two weeks, minimizing disruption for Adven.

When the solid fuel boiler (KPA) was offline, energy production relied on costlier natural gas, and husks had to be transported off-site instead of being burned on-site for waste disposal.

The NIRAFON system significantly improved boiler performance, extending cleaning intervals from weekly to twice yearly. Even on a fouled boiler, the acoustic cleaning system effectively restored surfaces. This reduced downtime, maintenance costs, and energy production expenses by enabling consistent use of barley husk as fuel.

"The NIRAFON system has proven to be an excellent solution for maintaining boiler efficiency. Its performance and the seamless implementation process make it a very valid choice for addressing fouling issues in energy production systems."
